Describe your style.
My style is rooted in classic menswear. I’m drawn to sharp tailoring, clean lines, and pieces that feel timeless. Oftentimes, I’ve referred to my style as classically modern. Which to me means my style evolves with time but also has the DNA of a heritage look. The silhouettes change slightly, but a well-cut suit always finds its way into my wardrobe.
How did you get into fashion?
GQ magazines, James Bond, and advertising. Growing up in a predominantly college town, I didn’t have a lot of fashionable inspiration around me. I specifically remember Kanye West being one of my first inspirations. To clarify, the 2005 version of Kanye West. I appreciated his style for being different from the norm, and I knew that’s how I wanted to be perceived. Later, I started noticing these beautifully, well-crafted ads by Ralph Lauren and wanted to live in that image –so Ralph Lauren then became my new obsession. Piers Brosnan’s 007 was the first of the series I watched, and again, it was a lifestyle that I wanted to exude. So, long story short, I was introduced to fashion, or building my sense of style through media.
Take us behind the scenes. What’s your process like for planning and creating your content?
Location, outfit, story. If I have an outfit I want to film, I always start with where am I going to film this, does the outfit match the environment, and what’s the story I’m telling?
You recently shared a post where you talked about your process for taking your own solo photos. What tips do you have for someone looking to do the same?
Practice makes perfect, and having a flip screen is going to help. Being able to see myself and how I’m posing helped me realize how to photograph myself. There are pros and cons to filming yourself, but it’s easily the only reason I’ve been able to create as much content as I have over the past 9 years. Also, invest in a good zoom lens. The camera is important, but your lens is what’s going to give you versatility.
