The term Belting Leather is one of the most abused in the leather goods Industry. True Industrial Belting Leather is defined as a 4mm thick, full vegetable tanned cowhide hot stuff with oils and waxes for use as drive belts on industrial machinery during the Industrial revolution. Many luggage and briefcase manufacturers like to call their leather “Industrial Belting” but, in fact, we have never seen a piece of luggage or a briefcase made from leather pure to this definition. It would make for a very thick and heavy bag!

Korchmar' Full grain belting cowhide is a 1.6mm thick steer hide re tanned with vegetable extracts; the color is “struck through” the hide by hours of soaking with natural aniline dyes and drum hot stuffed with oils and wax. Out Belting leather is true to the spirit of Industrial Belting Leather, providing the same look, beauty, and developing a unique patina over time, but in a form practical for use in luggage and business cases.

KORCHMAR SMOOTH COWHIDE

Used on Classic Korchmar Attaché's, Catalog Cases, and Brief Bags; Our smooth leather is either 1.2mm ( for attaches) or 1.6mm ( catalog cases and brief bags) thick top grain chrome tanned cowhide finished with a smooth tough solvent lacquer finish and embossed with a natural hair cell grain. Top Grain leather is full grain leather that is slightly buffed on the top surface to eliminate some of hide defects such as barb wire scratches and insect bites. Top grain retains all the tough wear characteristics of Full Grain but with a more artificial looking top surface.
